With our in-office lab milling technology, we are now happy to offer crowns in one visit!

If you've had a dental crown placed in the past, you may have waited for weeks for it to be completed. This type of treatment is tough to fit into a hectic schedule.

With E4D technology, Omaha dentist Dr. Amber Allen is now able to complete the entire crown process from start to finish during one appointment at our office. You will leave the same day with an aesthetically pleasing and fully functioning new tooth.

What Is a Dental Crown?

Porcelain crowns, or “caps,” are designed to fit over your remaining natural tooth structure and replace your entire tooth. The crown itself is custom shaded to match your existing teeth, and it does not change color over time, unlike your natural teeth. We do not use any metals in our crowns.

Teeth take a lot of abuse from daily chewing and grinding and eventually wear down. But a porcelain crown is actually stronger than your normal tooth. These all-porcelain crowns contain no metal and are a strong and natural-looking solution to a variety of dental issues.

Why Do I Need a Crown?

Crowns can be used for aesthetic reasons by correcting crowding, filling in gaps, or covering discolored or misshapen teeth. More often than not, however, they are needed to strengthen and protect an unhealthy tooth in order to extend its lifespan in your mouth. If a tooth is broken, chipped, or cracked, a crown will restore its strength and appearance.

The most common reason a crown is necessary is because of tooth decay. In this situation, you may wonder why a filling can't be used to repair your tooth.

When decay causes a big cavity, sometimes a filling is not adequate for maintaining the tooth’s strength. Although a filling does mend a tooth, if there is not enough healthy structure of the tooth left, it will not work very long. This could cause the filling to fall apart while the remaining tooth is weakened and may crack.

Porcelain crowns not only fix dental-related problems, but they also result in a more healthy and natural-looking smile.

What Are Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are a method of fixing and restoring a tooth much the same as a filling does, but they are customized for your tooth like a crown. The advantages of these types of restorations are that they are natural looking, strong, protect teeth, and require less healthy tooth structure to be removed.

Inlays and onlays are custom made in a lab, and the required preparation of the tooth is more conservative than that of a crown or filling.

Dr. Allen will evaluate your teeth and help you decide if an inlay, onlay, or crown is a desirable fix for you.

Amazing Experience

WOW! What a difference! Thanks so much Dr Allen for your amazing work! I can't remember if I thanked you when I left but I am so happy with the results! I had terrible memories as a child going to the dentist so for years I avoided going. After putting 3 kids in braces over the years I decided it was time for me to take care of myself. You and all your office staff have been so welcoming and kind at every visit. It was a long process but well worth it to be able to smile with confidence. I had tears of joy the day I saw my crowns and am so grateful I have you for my dentist. Special thanks to your dental assistant these last few visits-you take pride in your work and it shows. I can't thank you enough! -Beth

Frequently Asked Questions

When your tooth suffers from decay, trauma, or an infection, Omaha dentist Dr. Amber Allen may recommend a dental crown.

You may wonder why a filling is not sufficient for your tooth. This is because more tooth structure has been affected than a filling can repair. Sometimes this is because an older restoration has broken down, or it may be because decay has been allowed to progress into the pulp, or nerve, of your tooth.

Whatever the case may be, a crown is designed to restore your entire tooth structure, which also protects your natural root. A crown will mimic your tooth in both shape and shade, so it naturally complements your smile and isn't noticeable. It will also function like your natural tooth, which means that brushing, flossing, eating, and chewing remain the same as you are used to.

With state-of-the-art milling technology, Dr. Allen is now able to complete a crown during one short appointment at our office! What used to take 2 to 4 weeks to complete is now streamlined into one visit with E4D in-office milling technology. You also won't have to endure the messy or uncomfortable impressions we took in the past.

If you need a crown, it's important not to delay your treatment in order to avoid further damage. Contact our office today to schedule your next appointment.
