Dentures and Partials

Living without all of your teeth negatively impacts your life in a number of ways.

For instance, missing multiple teeth makes chewing and eating the foods you would normally enjoy challenging and sometimes embarrassing. This can affect your nutrition. You probably also feel self-conscious about the appearance of your smile, which impacts your confidence and can affect your personal and professional relationships.

A denture or partial denture may be a great solution for your needs, and here's what you should know about them.

What Is a Denture?

A denture is best described as a removable appliance that can replace an entire arch of your teeth. Dentures should look natural, fit comfortably, and function properly when you are chewing and speaking. If you have dentures or know anyone who does, they will tell you that a well-fitting set of teeth are worth their weight in gold.

There are many factors that need to be considered when making dentures that fulfill all those needs, and today's dentures are made with considerations for your facial structure and skin tone as well. Omaha dentist Dr. Amber Allen will find the center line of your mouth and choose a length and shade of teeth that will be natural in appearance relative to the size of your mouth and shape of your face. Our office will send the dental lab additional photos and will work closely with them to fine tune the details of your denture.

Dr. Allen will also provide as many adjustments as are needed until the fit of your denture is to your comfort and liking. You should be able to wear your dentures all day long with minimal inconvenience; however, it's completely normal that it may take some time to get used to your denture while talking and eating when you first begin to wear it.

What Is a Partial Denture?

A partial denture is a great option for restoring a smile that still retains many healthy teeth while also missing multiple teeth. The partial can also be removed, and it utilizes metal clasps that attach to your healthy teeth. It has customized prosthetic teeth attached that will fill in the open spaces.

Dr. Allen will design your partial to complement your smile and restore the function that you lost with your missing teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dental implants can be utilized to support a denture or partial, offering exceptional fit and longevity. Dr. Allen can design your appliance to fit into a few implants that are placed in your jawbone. Implants provide the added benefit of keeping your bone healthy, which eliminates the deterioration that can occur with a traditional denture.
